Workplace Literacy, Language and Numeracy
Workplace literacy, language and numeracy training is:
- English language training: understanding and responding to oral and written instructions, information and procedures in English; fluency of speech; increasing everyday and workplace vocabulary.
- Verbal communication: speaking up at meetings; listening critically to instructions, communicating with co-workers.
- Reading and writing: completing workplace forms and documentation, reading and writing reports, understanding health and safety and other workplace signs.
- Numeracy: completing workplace calculations accurately; counting, measuring and estimating at work.
- Critical thinking: understanding what the company is trying to achieve and the employee's role in achieving team, department and organisational goals
Employees with low levels of literacy and numeracy may be skilled in many aspects of their jobs but may have difficulty managing changes to systems or procedures or avoid certain parts of their role. Our training programmes give employees the skills and confidence to develop their abilities to excel in all aspects of their jobs.
This training can be piggy-backed with other vocational programmes where employees need additional support to fulfill all the reading, writing and numeracy requirements of a course. This could be either a Sadlers NZQA-accredited course, in-house company training or industry qualification.
